We purchased the sun hood to go along with our Kelty kid backpack because my son is lily white (just like his momma). It wonderfully blocks the sun and has enough airflow that he doesn't get overheated underneath it. I have to agree with other reviewers that it takes branches like a champ! I love how secure it fits on the backpack, though it does limit access some while in use. My little guy has tried a couple of times to push it off, and had no luck! I also love how it fits on the "front" adult side of the back pack - the edge of the shade/mesh goes low enough that he can't pull on my ponytail!

My only complaint/suggestion for improvement would be to have the mesh on the front go a little higher up. It would reduce the shade a little, but would allow the child to see better over the adult's shoulder. We'll keep on using it regularly!

This items is great! We do a lot of hiking in the woods and this shade provides a lot of protection to our child's head while walking through thicker brush. So far it has worked well in that regard, in addition to the expected of keep her dry in the rain and out of the sun when it is sunny.

It can cause limited access to them when you are hiking on your own. It straps on so well that getting in on the sides to assist them can be a challenge since there is not much room (which is a positive when in use). However, to get to them you essentially have to take the whole thing off. It is a minor inconvenience for all the benefits this item provides.

When not in use, it folds down compactly and can easily be stored with the pack and not take any room away from other hiking gear. It is well constructed and very durable (takes pine branches and brush like a champ)!

Well worth the money.

If you have the FC 1.0 don't bother with this hood. It only fits the 2.0 model despite the clearly marked "fits all FC models" on the packaging.
The attachments on the front of the carrier are mush lower on the 1.0 compared to the 2.0, when you put the hood on, the result is very cramped headroom, no visibility, and an extremely unhappy child.

Customer service, once I got through, did offer me a fixed solution on this sun hood. But realize that you have this extra step to deal with if you want the thing to function properly.
